Mistake #1: You’re using too much or too little cleaning solution.

Too much cleaning solution could leave your surfaces sticky or streaky, while too little may not clean effectively! Make sure to read the labels on your cleaning products before using.

Mistake #2: You’re only vacuuming your carpet in one direction.

The fibres of the carpet move when being vacuumed, so going in both directions ensures that everything gets picked up.

Mistake #3: You’re putting off your least favourite task until the end.

Get the worst part over first so that you have nothing left to dread, and so that it will absolutely get completed!

Mistake #4: You aren’t replacing your air filters regularly.

If you’re noticing that your house just isn’t staying dust-free, take a look at your air filters! It may be the hidden culprit!

Check out these ways to make your home gathering-ready!

1. Deep Clean

Go above and beyond your regular cleaning! Consider cleaning your fridge, your coat closet, and under your furniture. These are “hidden” spots that your guests might get a peek at!

2. Gather the Necessities

Ensure that your home is well stocked with things like toilet paper and napkins. You’ll also want to make sure you have enough seating for all your guests! Consider borrowing some extra chairs if necessary.

3. Get your home smelling great

There’s nothing better than walking into a home that smells amazing! Pick up your favourite candle or air freshener to give your guests a whiff of something delicious as soon as they enter your home.

4. Create a flow

Eliminate discomfort for your guests by creating a well thought-out space. Move your furniture around to open up your home, and place the food in an easily accessible area.

5. Make the perfect playlist

Nothing completes a party better than the perfect playlist! Take some time to consider the atmosphere you’d like to create, and select your music accordingly.

1. Create a master task list.

Take some time to write down all the cleaning tasks you want completed, whether daily, weekly or monthly.

2. Group task by frequency.

Think about how often you’d like each task to be completed.

3. Set time aside.

Determine how much time you will need to complete these tasks, daily, weekly, or monthly.

4. Make a plan.

Once you’ve determined the tasks, their frequency and the time needed, put it into a schedule.

5. Make it visual.

It could be putting the plan into the calendar on your phone, or making a cute document that you print out and hang on your fridge. Pick what will be most helpful for you!

Tip #1: Use multi-purpose cleaning supplies

We strongly recommend finding a multipurpose cleaner that you love and can use for almost everything! Our loved products include Mr. Clean Multipurpose Cleaner, Vim, toilet bowl cleaner and Windex! They cover just about everything!

Tip #2: Determine what actually needs to be cleaned.

We’ve all been there- we’re cleaning our bedroom, and then suddenly we’re cleaning all of our closets! How did we get here?! Sticking to the necessities, and setting time aside later for the extras, will make your regular cleaning feel more manageable!

Tip #3: Have a task list.

Determine the tasks to be completed in each room, that will make you feel that the room is as clean as you want it to be! This will look different for everyone!

Tip #4: Do a little each day.

Having a couple daily tasks will help the “deep cleaning” feel a bit more manageable! For example, it may be easier to start cleaning the kitchen if you don’t have a sink of dirty dishes!

Tip #5: Get everyone involved.

Distributing cleaning tasks among those in your household will definitely lighten the load for everyone! Decide what’s reasonable for each person to be responsible for.

1. Start with the dishes.

Collect any dishes scattered around your home and load up your dishwasher!

2. Make the beds.

A well-made bed brings a bedroom together instantly!

3. Clean up the toys.

Even if it means tossing them all in a toy box, this will help a ton!

4. Organize surfaces.

Straightening your coffee table, dining room table, and other surfaces in your home will make the space feel much tidier.

5. Sweep or vacuum high-traffic areas.

If you have the time, cleaning the floors of your kitchen, dining room and entrance will make the space feel much cleaner!

1. Use a Swiffer duster to pick up dust.

Swiffers are great at picking up dust, instead of just moving it around!

2. Use a wet cloth with cleaning solution.

Wipe down the surface. Disinfecting is an important step that often gets missed!

3. Use a dry cloth.

Polish the surface. Leaving a surface wet will leave water spots, so it’s important to finish the job by drying the surface!

1. Start off small.

Choose 1 chore to delegate to each person, daily, weekly, and monthly. Increase them as your family builds this habit.

2. Make a chore calendar.

Make a list of your family’s daily, weekly and monthly chores and keep it where everyone can see. Keep track of the chores that have been completed to make sure everyone’s helping out!

3. Help your kids learn their tasks.

It’s easy to forget that kids need help learning something new, so you might have to do it with them at first!

4. Make it fun!

Play music while cleaning, make a game of who can complete their chore fastest, or try something else that will help your family tolerate (and maybe even enjoy!) their chores!

5. Don’t give up!

Habits take time to become permanent. Stick to your guns when enforcing these new routines!

1. Under your fridge.

Chances are there is a ton of lint, dirt, food, and pet hair hiding under there and your fridge really should be cleaned underneath at least once a year!

2. Inside your garbage can.

Just rinse out and wash with a little soap and water. If you’re noticing your garbage has been smellier than usual, this. may help!

3. The feet of your chairs and barstools.

Especially if you have pets in your home, the feet of your chairs might be picking up pet hair regularly.

4. The cupboard under your sink.

Whether you keep your garbage under your sink or not, this cupboard is bound to get dirty over time!

5. The air vent grille in your bathroom.

Due to the humidity in your bathroom, dust sticks to the inside of the grille like crazy so the best way to clean it is to remove the grille to get into all the nooks and crannies!
